Press Release: President-elect Biden’s Climate Cabinet is a Climate Win
December 18, 2020
The stakes of this presidential election were high across the board on almost every issue. One particularly urgent issue was climate change. It contributed to a record turnout of voters and clearly got a lot of attention by the Biden Administration as evidenced by their strong Climate Cabinet picks. These Cabinet nominees are worth celebrating:
Secretary of the Interior, Congresswoman Deb Haaland
Secretary of Energy, Former Governor Jennifer Granholm
EPA administrator, Michael Regan
Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality, Brenda Mallory
National Climate Advisor, Gina McCarthy
Deputy National Climate Advisor, Ali Zaidi
At Eco.Logic, we believe the climate crisis affects us all. We focus our work on inclusion, seeking opportunities to bring more people into the movement, and we strive to make our environmentalism intersectional. We understand that climate change leads to migration, results in disproportionate impacts on certain communities due to structural racism, and that women more often bear the brunt of climate disasters. The environment is not a single issue. Rather, it must be understood holistically, centering people in the movement.
For this reason, Eco.Logic is thrilled to see a diverse group of individuals nominated for Biden’s Climate Cabinet, and particularly excited to see Black, Indigenous, Muslim, and women representation. We are thankful for the work of the activists that helped make these nominations happen.
“As a Muslim woman and environmentalist myself, I founded Eco.Logic because there was a lack of representation and diversity in the environmental movement,” said Kanchwala, founder of Eco.Logic. We believe that the diversity of the new cabinet will allow for a greater understanding and ability to address the climate crisis from multiple angles. Let’s celebrate these historic appointments, as we continue to focus on the very real challenges ahead.
